Goethe-Vigoni Discorsi

The Sars-CoV-2 pandemic has not only thrown Europe into a health crisis, but also relativised some of the pillars of European integration, like free movement across national borders and cultural and scientific exchange. Due to current circumstances, the project of the festival “Europasommer 2020” – a cooperation between the Goethe-Universität of Frankfurt am Main, the German-Italian Centre for the European Dialogue Villa Vigoni, the Italian General Consulate in Frankfurt and the State Chancellery of Hessen – has also been postponed for a year due to the Sars-CoV-2 crisis. For this reason, the festival’s promoters conceived a new format, the Goethe-Vigoni Discorsi.
Thanks to the partnership with the newspapers “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” and “La Repubblica”, they aim at contributing to the European discourse, despite the virtual modality. In the next months the cultural inserts of “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” and “La Repubblica” will give a voice to representatives of the civilian society, the world of the scientific research, culture, economy and politics as part of this project. The theme is Europe from the special Italian-German perspective

The different contributions will then be available on the websites of the Goethe-Universität of Frankfurt and the German-Italian Centre for the European Dialogue Villa Vigoni. Finally, their publication as a volume is expected to take place.

Through this initiative, we would like to stress the fact that Europeans cannot think to overcome the challenges that there are currently facing (not only the one caused by Sars-CoV-2) exclusively at a purely national level. Instead, they will surely start big initiatives together, especially if they remember their common history which is symbolised in a small way by Villa Vigoni
