The book "Warum sich Europa lohnt" is coming out with the contributions of Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa (1940-2010, economist and former Italian Minister of Economy and Finance from 2006 to 2008) and Paolo Gentiloni (former President of the Italian Council from 2016 to 2018), edited by Christiane Liermann Traniello (General Secretary, Villa Vigoni) and Matteo Scotto (Researcher, Villa Vigoni).
The initial part of the volume, published by Franz Steiner Verlag, presents, for the first time in German, an essay by Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa. This is a socio-economic analysis based on the consequences of the 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in New York, and highlights the need for political reasonableness in dealing with the new geo-political framework that has emerged.
The second contribution, taken from the Vigoni Lecture 2018, which saw as a guest the former Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni, deals with the theme of the different forms of populism present in Europe today.
