ABSRTACT
On the occasion of Friedrich Hölderlin's 250th birthday (1770 – 1843), the conference focuses on the poet's position in the contexts of his time. The hypothesis is that Hölderlin was by no means the untimely and almost 'self-exiled' figure that scholars have long wanted to see, but a sensitive observer and actor in the literary field of the so called 'Age of Goethe'. The aim is to systematically elaborate and methodically re-establish Hölderlin's 'Zeitgenossenschaft', that is his anchoring in constellations of the history of ideas, literary conventions and publication contexts of his time.
