SILK: the tradition of progress. From Enrico Mylius to the "Paolo Carcano" silk factory

From 1 June to 1 July 2019, Villa Vigoni will be hosting the Silk: the tradition of progress. From Enrico Mylius to the "Paolo Carcano" silk factory exhibition at Villa Garovaglio Ricci, featuring works by some of the students at the Istituto Statale di Istruzione Superiore Setificio “Paolo Carcano” of Como.

On the 250th anniversary of his birth, Villa Vigoni remembers Enrico Mylius (1769-1854), trader and silk entrepreneur, founder and financial backer of SIAM (Società d’Incoraggiamento d’Arti e Mestieri) in Milan during the first half of the nineteenth century. The aim is to build a bridge between past and present through the subject of silk design and weaving thanks to the collaboration with the Istituto Statale di Istruzione Superiore Setificio “Paolo Carcano” of Como. The exhibition will conclude with a study day focusing on silk (1 July 2019).
