Fifteenth “Villa Vigoni” Trilateral Research Conference Programme

The fifteenth “Villa Vigoni” Trilateral Research Conference Programme will take place in 2019. There have been forty conferences between 2004 and today, involving around 600 participants from Germany, France and Italy. The programme has an important part to play in terms of scientific cooperation between these three countries. What is more, its originality has inspired others to organise similar initiatives.

In order to mark this milestone, the three institutions behind the programme ‒ Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, the Fondation Maison des sciences de l’homme and Villa Vigoni -German-Italian Centre for European Excellence – are launching a call for tenders to develop an idea for a conference project in keeping with the occasion, to be held at Villa Vigoni.  The objective of the project is not only to celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of the programme, but also present original proposals that will also enable this trilateral cooperation to demonstrate its potential in the future.

Project ideas are welcome from scientists who have already taken part in the Trilateral Conference Programme in the past, as well as from those who have not yet been involved. We do not intend to provide here any further indications regarding the content and materials. However, the project assessment process will consider the following criteria:

  • Original proposal for an event lasting a maximum of three days at Villa Vigoni (including the arrival and departure dates);
  • A strongly trilateral orientation that entails the involvement of scientists from the three countries;
  • Focus on the central element of the trilateral programme: use of German, French and Italian as the languages for scientific communication;
  • Balanced participation of male and female scientists with extensive experience and new recruits to scientific research (PhD students and/or those who have recently completed their PhDs);
  • Potential for project visibility, as well as visibility of the entire programme and its scientific policy objectives, among a large audience.

DFG, FMSH and Villa Vigoni will provide €15,000 for the organisation of the event, to cover the participants’ travel and accommodation costs, as well as any additional costs involved in carrying out the event itself.

Proposals may be presented in a single language (German, French or Italian) and must include a project summary in all three programme languages. Proposals must be submitted by 15 September 2018. They should be sent as a PDF email attachment to the following address:
