No. 2/2022 Germany, Italy and the Next Generation EU's resources from an economic and geopolitical point of view

The objective of the Vigoni Paper 2/2022 is to analyze some potential new political and economic relations between Germany and Italy in the context of the post-pandemic and of the Next Generation EU plan. Southern Italy plays an important role for the stability of Italy and, for the well-being of Germany through its effect on the European geopolitical stability. Germany should support the insourcing of production chains of the energy and healthcare sectors in Southern Italy. This is due to geopolitical and economic reasons. The Italian government should sustain this insourcing by implementing structural reforms in the labor market and in the legal system.
