ABSTRACT

After the competition is before the competition. Following the announcement of the results of the 2019 Excellence Competition of the Federal and State Governments, the successful institutions implemented and readjusted their concepts and began making preparations for the next round. With invited guests from universities, scientific and academic organizations, and politics, the symposium discusses what value (excellence) competitions have (had) for the German research and higher education system, what valid knowledge we have about their preconditions and consequences, and how it can continue.

The Villa Vigoni Symposium of Science and Politics is organized by the president of Universität Hamburg, Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Dieter Lenzen, in cooperation with the Körber-Stiftung and Prof. Dorothee Dzwonnek. As a Universität Hamburg international strategy conference, the symposium is being funded within the framework of the Excellence Strategy of the Federal and State Governments.
