The project, which aims to illustrate the question of the first principle from Aristotle to Kant, is structured along the following lines, which will be the subject of the three planned conferences: 1. Examination of the senses of the terms ἀρχή-αἰτία (principium-causa) in ancient, medieval (Latin and Arabic), and modern thinking; 2. Examination of the terms ἀρχή-αἰτία (principium-causa) in the context of logic and metaphysics in ancient, medieval (Latin and Arabic), and modern thinking; 3. Examination of the status and use of the Aristotelian principle of non-contradiction in ancient, medieval (Latin and Arabic) and modern thought.
