The workshop, the first event of Vigoni Ricerca aims to address the complex topic of sustainability through the dynamics of techno-scientific diplomacy, and with a focus on the role of experts in their dialogue with policy makers, from a national to an international level. Thanks to the synergies established between a number of research groups between Italy and Germany within the European framework, we will discuss three areas of study that are interdisciplinary in nature: the exploration and use of space for Earth observation, the energy issue and management of natural resources, and finally climate change in consideration of the two aforementioned areas. International history is the vantage point that will drive the reflections on the issues at the centre of these two days of study, in which historians from different generations will be confronted with experts: scientists, senior national and international officials, business managers as actors of the present time, and also witnesses of a recent past partly illuminated by institutional and private archives.
