Escape ‒ Border ‒ Integration (3): Popularity and populism as forms of integration/disintegration. Talk on the phenomenon of Displacement in Europe as part of the cooperation agreement between the University of Luxembourg and Villa Vigoni

ABSTRACT

The conference relates the concept of integration to the interconnected phenomena of popularity and populism. The focus will be on the different, but interrelated forms of inclusion and exclusion that the concept of integration implies in its various ways of employment. It will be analyzed which strategies of building political comminities are associated with popularity and/or populism. Thus, in a historically contrastive series of case studies, we will try to investigate the binding forces that bring the community (not society) into a (social) form (forms of embodiment, networks, etc.). The conference is the third part of a series organised by the University of Luxembourg and Villa Vigoni on the phenomenon of displacement in Europe.
