ABSTRACT

Environmental history helps us understand the relationship between nature and culture over time and forces us to ask new questions. It gives us the means to revise our understanding of human agency, to render visible the entanglement of human histories in geological, natural, and material processes, and to encourage visionary responses to the challenges of our time. This workshop will draw together several topics that are central to Italian and German scholarship, and provoke new discussion on the role of national environmental history writing within Italian and German national contexts and in the wider world.
