Hamburg-Vigoni Forum
Since 2021, Villa Vigoni has been working together with the University of Excellence Hamburg, the Europa-Kolleg Hamburg and the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy as part of the multi-year event series ‘Hamburg-Vigoni Forum’. The aim of the forum is to bring together research and politics in an innovative way in order to define the concepts of ‘space’, ‘sovereignty’ and ‘identity’ in current European politics and thus present accessible interpretations for politicians and citizens. In addition, publications on the three thematic focal points are planned.
The conference series addresses the key question ‘What holds Europe together?’. This question must be placed in a global context characterised by major changes and substantial upheavals. Constantly readjusting their own profile, Europeans are obliged to seek their place as powerful players in a multilateral world and to agree to defend it. In consideration of such a complex task, European responses are intended to help strengthen international cohesion.
A total of seven academic conferences will be organised between 2021 and 2026, alternating between Villa Vigoni and Hamburg. With the support of experts and young German and Italian academics, the format offers sustainable impetus for a global discourse on the future of Europe. The Hamburg-Vigoni Forum is funded by Villa Vigoni and the Excellence Strategy of the German federal and state governments.
