Ambassador Luigi Mattiolo is the Italian President of the German-Italian Centre for European Dialogue Villa Vigoni.
From 1995, he worked in an advisory capacity at the General Secretariat of the EU Council, before moving to the Permanent Representation of Italy to the EU, where he was responsible for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, among other areas.
He held the post of First Counsellor at the Permanent Representation of Italy to the United Nations from 2001 to 2004.
Between 2008 and 2021, he served as Ambassador in Tel Aviv (2008-2012), Director-General of the EU Department at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2012-2015), and Ambassador in Ankara (2015-2018) and Berlin (2018-2021).
Subsequently, and up until 2022, Luigi Mattiolo was diplomatic advisor to the government of Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi.
