Villa Vigoni, Italian-German cultural heritage

Sunday, the 18th of May 2025, marks this year’s International Museum Day. On this day, all eyes worldwide are set on museums as places of not only knowledge and science, but also cultural exchange and understanding. At Villa Vigoni, art and family history, German-Italian tradition and European encounters intertwine. Here, history comes to life while the present is simultaneously being shaped. Everywhere we come across traces of the eventful past of the Mylius Vigoni family: Villa Vigoni is home to art history, library and archival collections, all the while being a site dedicated to the memory of Julius, only son to the ‘founding father’ of Villa Vigoni, Heinrich Mylius.

The collections include sculptures, paintings, furniture, books, and much more from the times of the Mylius Vigoni family. However, it is not only family history that is kept alive here, but also the history of German-Italian friendship, starting with Heinrich Mylius and Goethe, up to Ignazio Vigoni Jr. and Konrad Adenauer – friendships that have shaped a place still standing for German-Italian dialogue up until the present day.

There are several different ways to experience Villa Vigoni and get to know more about it. Every Thursday, the Villa opens its doors to those interested, offering guided tours through the house and park. For those who are simply curious and wish to experience the Villa from home, the virtual tour and exploration of the site transport the glories of the place right into their living room. For art lovers, a look at the brochure about the art prints of Heinrich Mylius, telling the story of the artworks up for sale, would be worthwhile.
