Particularly for the younger generations, Millennials and Gen Z, there is a clear contrast between their lives and those of the previous generation. While they benefit from opportunities won by earlier generations, they also face challenges on an unprecedented scale. In the interdisciplinary publication “Crisis, Youth, and the Critique of Adulthood” (Villa Vigoni Editore I Verlag), young authors explore the historical relationship between youth and the transition to adulthood. The editors, Roberto Interdonato and Florian H. Geidner, present the essays and engage in discussion with the participants. This is followed by discussions about today’s younger generations, who, while seizing opportunities for self-expression, are also burdened by concerns about the future, particularly around finances, employment, and quality of life. The conversation is further enriched by keynote speeches from experts in youth studies, politics, and journalism. The aim of the debate is to increase understanding of the complex situation facing young people in Italy and Germany, and to explore policy and societal recommendations.
