Germany and Italy are currently shaping Europe’s future together as rarely before. It is no exaggeration to speak of a “turning point” in German–Italian relations. Next Generation EU and the European Green Deal pose unprecedented economic and social challenges for both countries. Against this backdrop, four themes were addressed in the Vigoni Lecture 2021: ecological transition; demographic perspectives; urban transformation and sustainable development; and the digital revolution.
