Villa Vigoni will once again host its major “Forum” in 2026 as a collaborative project with the Fondazione Treccani Cultura. The Forum is entitled “A New Sovereignty for Europe”. It is intended as a space for reflection and discussion on the profound changes currently taking place within the European project. The aim is to define Europeans’ capacity for action in a turbulent global context and to discuss their future prospects. The Forum provides a platform for open dialogue that brings together diverse European perspectives.
The forum is the central event of Villa Vigoni’s two-year project “We Tired Europeans?!” (Re-Konstruktionen 2.0) and, at the same time, the central event marking the 40th anniversary of the German-Italian Centre for European Dialogue Villa Vigoni (1986–2026).
The debate covers four main themes: the relationship between the national level and Europe’s capacity for action; the deepening of economic union in response to global pressures and competitive demands; the strengthening of the European dimension of security and defence as a prerequisite for the strategic ‘autonomy’ of Europeans; and democratic stability and social consensus as essential prerequisites for the future of integration.
