Liberal parliamentary democracies are being called into question today. The great powers are asserting, sometimes by force, areas of influence and unchallenged spheres of action, while nationalist tendencies are slowing down the process of European integration. It therefore becomes legitimate to ask: can a modern, inclusive, and democratic nation-state still represent an effective tool to guarantee civil rights, promote political and social cohesion, and give new impetus to European dynamics?
These questions will be at the heart of this year’s Forum, which will exceptionally take place in Rome on the occasion of the centenary of the Istituto della Enciclopedia Italiana Treccani and will be organized in collaboration with the Institute itself.
