The opening of the Vatican archives to the time of Pope Pius XII has created completely new possibilities for research in the history of theology. The Italian-French-German workshop takes a look at current projects in this context and relates them to previous research on the history of the Roman magisterium and Roman censorship. The pontificate of Pius XII in particular is characterised by an interesting mixture of cautious opening tendencies and renewed repression.
