The conference aims to enhance cooperation among legal scholars by discussing the VW emission scandal as a means of mutual learning. It provides a unique opportunity to conduct a comprehensive case study and comparison of the different approaches taken by the German and Italian Courts in establishing VW’s liability. The project employs three methodologies: reconstructive and desk research-based to highlight specific issues addressed by national authorities, critical and comparative to present pros and cons of given remedies, and de jure condendo to stimulate debate on overarching issues.
