The symposium explores the correspondences and differences in the development of scholarship in the field of cultural sciences in Italy and Germany. How do the disciplinary cultures, historical challenges, thematic focuses, and academic contexts differ? Individual discussion panels will explore the origins of cultural sciences, their history since the “cultural turn,” and their impetus for changes in the various disciplines. In light of the current discourse on “crisis,” examining the history of cultural sciences also sheds light on its future prospects.
