The conference aims at investigating the theoretical and methodological foundations which remain implicit (“hidden”) in the work of Erich Auerbach (1892-1957). In light of the new impulses produced by international research on the great Romance philologist and comparatist, experts from various disciplines—Romance Philology, Philosophy, Classical Philology, Oriental Studies, History and Comparative Literatures—shall systematically reflect on the main concepts and topics of Auerbach’s writings and discuss the outreach and current relevance of this classic of European thought.
