The current global political landscape is undergoing profound transformations, both in the cultural foundations that underpin international relations and in the distribution of power and institutional arrangements. Established international rules and norms are increasingly being challenged, as major powers undermine elements of the post-World War II order through unilateral actions, military and technological leverage, and efforts to redefine global interests and spheres of influence.
At the same time, culture – expressed through heritage, education, media, and the creative industries – has assumed a decisive role in shaping national identities, influencing international perceptions, and fostering mutual understanding among societies. In both the Global North and the Global South, growing calls are being made for a more equitable and inclusive system of global governance – one that recognizes culture not merely as an instrument of soft power, but as a fundamental basis for dialogue, empathy, and cooperation across civilizations.
In this context, the organizers propose an international conference to critically examine the role of soft power and cultural diplomacy in addressing these challenges and opportunities. The initiative will be held within the framework of the Young Villa Vigoni, with the participation of a delegation of young members of Villa Vigoni.
