Villa Vigoni promotes academic cooperation in Europe. Its focus is on the development of and exchange between scientific networks in Italy and Germany in the humanities and social sciences. There are also trilateral ventures in which France is involved, as well as ‘Four Nations’ initiatives with partners from Italy, Germany, Poland and France.
Villa Vigoni´s main activities in this area include:
- the realisation of and participation in research projects;
- in cooperation, the organising of a bilateral call for proposals for German-Italian collaboration and of a trilateral call for proposals for German-Italian-French collaboration in the form of funded conferences and research projects on site at Villa Vigoni;
- the (also digital) publication of monographs, anthologies and journals by the Villa Vigoni Editore | Verlag;
- the establishment and expansion of a network of contacts with various ministries, universities, research institutes, foundations and other institutions involved in international cooperation in science, culture and politics.

The programme, developed in collaboration with the German Research Foundation (DFG), offers the opportunity to organise conferences (colloquia, seminars for doctoral and post-doctoral students or ‘close reading’ symposia) to discuss academic issues relating to European culture, history and society.

The programme, conceived jointly with the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme (FMSH), aims to promote the development of and exchange between scientific networks in Italy, France and Germany. The programme also seeks to promote the use of German, French and Italian as scientific languages.
