In the fourth edition of the Vigoni Papers Manfred Rettig, founding chairman of the Stiftung Humboldt Forum, Berlin, talks about Europe's future role in the world.
Abstract:
The Covid 19 pandemic has destabilised the entire international system, with significant consequences for the EU. Fractures are becoming visible which seemed to be healing after last year's European elections. The Union is at a crossroads: on the one hand, nationalists are demanding a return to a national dimension. On the other hand, the need for a genuine federal solution in the economic, monetary, environmental, defence and security fields is more urgent than ever. What role will Europe play on the international stage in the future in relation to the major world powers?
